TikTok shoots itself in the foot! Overview of innovations 2021 😱
Social network TikTok has come to grips with privacy and safety of young users
Service of small video clips TikTok has changed the approach to security settings. More specifically, the social network will make the accounts of teenagers from 13 to 15 years old private and prohibit users under 16 years old from receiving comments from all users without exception.
“Starting today, we are changing the default privacy settings for all user accounts between the ages of 13-15 to private. With such an account, only approved subscribers can view the user's video. We want our young users to be able to make informed choices about what and with whom they want to share and whether they want to make their account available for public viewing, ” the social network said in a press release.
New TikTok security settings:
- Users under 16 years old will not receive comments from all users without exception. Permission to comment can be given only to “Friends”, or all users can be prohibited from commenting on their videos.
- Duets and Stitch (allows you to use other people's video clips to remix - Esquire) are now only available for content created by users aged 16 and over. For users between the ages of 16 and 17, the default features are only available for posts from Friends.
- Only users over 16 years old are allowed to download videos. Other users can decide for themselves if they want to allow the download of their content.
- In the settings of user accounts from 13 to 15 years old, the option "Do not suggest this account to other users" is selected by default.
The company said that these innovations are based on previous security updates. So, previously, the video service banned users under 16 years of age from sending private messages, conducting live broadcasts, and only users who are over 18 years old are allowed to buy, send and receive virtual gifts. TikTok has also allowed parents or guardians to control the parameters of children's accounts using Family Pairing.
